Catholic Social Teaching guides us how to live out our faith in the world. Our faith calls us to love God and to love our neighbours in all situations, especially those living in poverty. We follow in the footsteps of Jesus and by doing this, we hope to make present the justice, love and peace of God.

There are 9 key areas of Catholic Social Teaching. See below for examples in St Cuthbert's Catholic Primary School.

Common Good

“You are not making a gift of your possessions to the poor person. You are handing over to them what is theirs.”

Saint Ambrose (340-397 AD)

Human Dignity

“Before I formed you in the womb, I knew you.”   Jeremiah 1:5

Option for the Poor

“The spirit of the Lord is on me, for he has anointed me to bring the good news to the afflicted. He has sent me… to let the oppressed go free.” Luke 4:18

Participation

“It is not good for the man to be alone.” Genesis 2:18

God created us for community.

Peace

“Blessed are the peacemakers.” Matthew 5:9

Rights & Responsibilities

“Act justly, love mercy, and walk humbly with your God.” Micah 6:8  Living rightly and caring for others are responsibilities.

Solidarity

Stewardship

“God saw all that he had made, and it was very good.” Genesis 1:31  God’s creation is beautiful and valuable.

Subsidiarity
