Exploring the Vibrant Traditions of Chinese New Year
Reception at St Cuthbert’s Catholic Primary School in Stockton has been buzzing with excitement as the children immersed themselves in the colourful celebrations of Chinese New Year. The learning environment was transformed, with the home corner beautifully decorated to reflect the sights and symbols of this special festival.
Crafting Dragons and Dancing With Joy
The children got creative by designing and crafting their own colourful Chinese dragons - each one unique, bright and full of character.
They then brought their creations to life by performing an energetic dragon dance with musical instruments, filling the classroom with rhythm, movement and lots of happy smiles!
Tasting Delicious Chinese Food Together
As part of embracing the celebration, Reception pupils also enjoyed a delicious selection of Chinese dishes. Exploring new flavours and textures was a highlight of the day, helping children experience the festival through taste as well as sight and sound.
Baking and Decorating Good Fortune Biscuits
To wrap up their festivities, the children made and decorated special Chinese New Year biscuits to take home.
- One biscuit was shaped like a horse, representing this year’s zodiac sign.
- The second biscuit was a lucky penny, symbolising good fortune and prosperity.
These thoughtful touches helped the children connect meaningfully with the traditions of the Lunar New Year.
Wishing Everyone a Happy Year of the Horse
Reception had a wonderful time celebrating, creating and learning together. From dancing dragons to delicious food and symbolic biscuits, the children embraced every moment.
Wishing all our families a prosperous and joyful Year of the Horse!
