Year 3 pupils at St Cuthbert’s Catholic Primary School in Stockton have been busy investigating friction as part of their science learning.

Investigating How Surfaces Affect Movement

During the lesson, children explored how objects move across different surfaces. They tested materials such as carpet, wood and smooth tables, observing how each surface affected movement.

Pupils made thoughtful predictions before carrying out their investigations, considering which surfaces might create more or less friction.

Hands-On Learning in Action

The classroom was filled with excitement and curiosity as children worked together to test their ideas. Through teamwork and discussion, they shared their results and reflected on what they had discovered.

It was wonderful to see pupils so engaged in their learning, developing both their scientific understanding and collaborative skills.

Celebrating Young Scientists

The lesson was a great example of learning in action, with pupils showing enthusiasm and a real desire to explore new concepts.

Great work, Year 3 scientists!
